The Secret Place
'But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet.'
Matt 6:6 KJV
In the context of this scripture, Jesus is talking about the importance of prayer and spending time with him. He states “When you pray” not “if”. This statement is one that suggests that if you are a follower of Christ, then prayer is a must. When we look at the life of Christ, His prayer life is of utmost importance. Before His ministry, He goes into the wilderness to spend time with God and then comes back in the power of God… and we know the rest. Jesus decides that He will spend time in His secret place.
When you and I decide to spend time with God, our secret place can turn into God’s secret place. Psalms 91:1 speaks of God’s secret place.
Ps 91:1 KJV He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. ,
Something powerful happens when we put Him first, as in with any relationship. When He sees that we are hungering and thirsting after Him, we find him and are protected under the “Shadow of the Almighty”. It is then in His presence that we are completely transformed. We are changed from “glory to glory”. Moses’ face shone brightly after spending time with God, Jacob never walked the same after meeting God in the secret place. And so it comes down to you and I. What are the potential possibilities if we start putting our time with God first, and entering into the secret place. O the possibilities are endless.
Psalms 16:11 states, Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. He shows us the path of life as we spend time in our closets.
Let’s spend more time with him, as the possibilities once we do are out of this world.
